MEXICO CITY, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) — At least 12 people died and 28 were injured when a bus flipped down a hill in the northern Mexican state of Durango, authorities said Sunday.
The accident, in which the vehicle fell down a 45-meter hill in the town of Mapimi, happened on Saturday night, but the extent of the tragedy was only known later, according to the state’s civil protection office. The injured have been taken to hospital, added the authorities.
Speaking of the accident on his Twitter account, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said, “I lament the road accident, which happened in Mapimi, Durango, in which many people unfortunately lost their lives.”In a second message, he wished a “swift recovery to all the injured” and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.
